Should I or shouldn't I provide an 800 number for
prospects to reach me at?
That's a good question.
There are two conflicting schools of thought on the
issue...
=> If you provide an 800 number, every lookie-loo will call
you -- wasting both your time and money.
=> If you provide an 800 number, then the people who are
most interested in your offering will call to find out
more.
Personally, I feel that it really depends on what you are
offering.
If you are offering something that is free, then you
shouldn't provide an 800 number as there is no risk to the
prospect.
If you are offering a high-priced item, then it is
important to provide an easy way for the prospect/customer
to reach you -- an 800 number would be one such way.
The best way to find out if an 800 number helps your
business or wastes your time is to get one and test it out.
Many long-distance providers will piggy-back an 800 number
to an existing phone line for no additional cost (other
than the per minute charge for the incoming calls).
Try it out for a month or two and see if the persons
utilizing your toll-free line are quality prospects or just
lookie-loos. Then you'll know if an 800 number is a good
choice for you.
